Polk Audio TL2600

This system is outstanding! Of course, in order to achieve great results, one needs proper wiring and a good AV receiver to drive the system (not to mention proper digital delivery of the sound). Insufficient wiring and a poor AV receiver could lead one to believe the speaker are at fault. Digital quality can vary across audio sources, even one station to another. Proper placement of speakers is imperative to optimal sound quality. Like a good friend of mine recently said, "You cannot make the space work for you. Rather, you have to work with the space you are given." When too close to the sub, it seems like it is too heavy, yet when I move away, the response seems just divine! I used this system to replace a Bose Acoustimass system that my parents now have. I am very sensitive to sound, and cannot tell the difference between the two. IWe playing the Canadian Brass through this system, which to me is a fantastic test for the range and quality of speakers, and it seemed like I was there - live in concert. Bottom line - you get what you pay for, and in this case (paying roughly half RRP) more!

Great sound for home entertainment

This speaker set has 6 pieces and I like the Polk Blackstone speaker design. It is quite stylish and looks more like pieces of art than speakers. When you pick one up it feels substantial -- not just a box with a glued in speaker. The binding posts let you get a tight crimp on your speaker wire.
These speakers produce good mid range sound and adequate highs especially when you crank the volume to midrange. There is no noticeable distortion when the volume is up to party levels. The speaker housing does not reverberate, which attests to their quality.
The subwoofer is a long-throw 8, which is adequate for smaller rooms and is good for watching movies. I don't like overpowering bass myself, so this one is perfect for me.
My hearing is long past high fidelity and I just wanted a speaker system that would produce good clean sound. The Blackstones are better than average. I would recommend them to anyone who needs a good 5.1 system. If you have a large room or like big volume and lots of bass you should look at some of the other Polk series speakers.
Does not come with speaker wire, so be sure to have it ready when it's time to connect. I have paired this speaker system with Onkyo TX-SR309 5.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver and am enjoying it very much for music and movies.

Great Speaker System for Tv and Movies

The Polk Audio TL2600 series is a great speaker system for watching T.V. and movies! If your trying to decide on the Tl1600 or Tl2600, look no further, the Tl2600 has more cleaner and crisper sound than the Tl1600. I have them paired with a Yamaha RX-V571 and the sound is amazing.
Though I have found out the hard way that the 8" subwoofer is not meant to thump hard. Im on my 3rd sub since I bought the system 6 weeks ago, because the other 2 subs had blown fuses and quit working. The sub level on receiver was at 0.. which was half way, and the level on sub was at half way. The sales man where I bought the system said that was too high for the sub. He suggested level on receiver at no more than -4.0db, and level on sub at half or just little under. With it set up this way, tv and movies sound great! but for myself I would like the option to really bump the sub with music and the 8" is just not quite it. If you don't like the thumping that you feel in your chest then this system is great! But if you want to be able to really feel the music, I would pair a different sub with this system and you will have the home theater system all your family and friends will be coming over to hear.
