4Great overall system that just destroys the Bose $2,000 system!
By Steven Level
This a direct comparison between the Bose 5.1 $2000 surround sound setup and this Definitive Tech 5.1 surround setup.

First off my close friend is a big Bose fan and bought this Bose $2,000 5.1 setup that sounded very weak, with a ton of directional music being played by the very small powered subwoofer in the system. I was so upset that he bought this Bose setup without doing any research on any other potential systems for the same price. After all he's not a dumb guy, just a tad bit impatient and not really into researching things before he buys.

So he asked me my honest opinion and of course I knew he could easily best the way over-rated and over-priced Bose 5.1 that was selling at $2,000 which I didn't believe until he showed me his invoice. Well I talked him into trying a few other setups that were very similar for less money.

He wanted a unobtrusive set up with the main 5 speakers being fairly small like the Bose full range cubes. Well first we tried out the Polk 5.1 setup for about $1,000 and he was already impressed and new the Bose setup was a advertising setup and he felt as though he was deceived and ripped off after he returned his Bose setup.

Although he like the Polk 5.1 setup I knew we could do better for near the $2,000 he was willing to spend. So being a huge Definitive fan myself, with my own Studio Monitor 450's for my front and rear with a Definitive 8040 center channel and a Dayton 1200 12" powered sub he was always impressed with my 7.1 setup. So we looked into the smaller Definitive Pro 1000 system.

The Def Tech small main four speakers with the nice new piston type bass drivers and there usual all aluminum 1" tweeter, we were both impressed with the over all sound of these really small speakers. They absolutely smoked the "Bose" full range cubes in every possible aspect!

The Pro 1000 center channel was so nice it blew him away. I would say it was a tad weak compared to my 8040 but di match that small speaker size really well. Next was by far the most impressive speaker the Pro 1000 powered subwoofer. This is one great powered subwoofer with a 10" very tight and punchy sound and a 10" passive radiator to add to it's low end response of 20 H.Z.

This is one impressive powered sub that I decided I'm going to buy and replace my Dayton 1200 with it. This is a great sub for detailed music listening and has a nicely placed volume control on the side of the sub.

All these speakers together really sound great and absolutely convinced my friend that "Bose" is really over rated and over priced as well. The performance of the Bose system just had me wondering how they can get people to actually keep that really horrible setup for $2,000?

The matching Definitive Pro Cinema 1000 system is the best over all deal in a 5.1 surround setup if you want a really small footprint from the speakers! I was really impressed and as I mentioned I'm currently looking into buying the Pro 1000 powered subwoofer that's getting rave reviews.

Otherwise does my system sound better than his? Yes it does since I have some higher end main and rear speakers as well as the center channel. But for the cost this Definitive ProCinema 1000 system is one great sounding and very fairly priced system for about $400 cheaper than that rip off Bose surround sound setup that had the powered sub playing directional music at all times!

Please anyone considering buying an expensive "Bose" 5.1 surround system look into this Definitive Pro 1000 setup! You will be grateful you did!! If you get the chance do a A-B comparison of the two systems in your home. You will be sending back those Bose cubes with the weak powered duel 6 1/2" driver powered sub faster than you can say "DEFINITIVE TECH PRO 1000" :)

5Big quality sound,I am impressed.
By Tesla Coil
I have wanted a quality speaker system for quite a long time, but have up until now used HTB solutions, mainly for cost savings alone.
So my wish was to get tower left and rights and matching brand speakers for center and surround, but living in a small space means that would not be the best way to go right now,so I looked into getting a smaller speaker package, without making too many compromises for sound quality. So the Definitive Technology ProCinema series kept showing up on various list,so I decided on the 1000 system, and WOW,coming from a cheap (but good known brand) of HTB it was a revalation, literally opening a new world of sound not only on blu-ray,but regular network and cable shows as well. I have 5.1 setup now,but the sound has blown me away that I am excited to get two more speakers for a 7.1 ,as my receiver supports it.If you are thinking of getting these speakers I would say go for it,fantastic sound out of smaller (not as tiny as pictures make them look) speakers,if you live in a small condo like me these are wonderful.
