I was only 18 or 19 at the time, had never heard of the "white van" scam, and was buying fuel at a popular gas station area where NY, PA, and NJ connect. Men came up as I was fueling up my newly bought used pt cruiser with tiger stripes on them which is probably why they assumed I was gullible. They showed me a kind of beat up box but which had brand new speakrs, and pulled out a catalog with a price I knew to be ridiculous for the speakers. It said a set equivalent to the one advertised here was like 2200 dollars MSRP. They said the warehouse order was wrong and that they brought a few too many to a store and needed to sell the last few for some cash to not get their boss mad at them. They were willing to follow me to an ATM and have me take out cash if I needed. Even after pulling out money (after just having gotten paid) and offering 420 dollars for what to me seemed like a 350 dollar surround sound, they still tried to see if I could fuel them up or go to an ATM or have any way to get extra cash. They decided that my 420 dollars PLUS a 12 pack or two or soda spotted in the back seat of my car from ShopRite was sufficient. The DVD player these days is kind of a POS, but the amplifier itself is the real receiver, not the dvd player. For 5 years now or so, despite being a white van scam and a bit overpriced (although luckily I didn't pay 800 or 1000 dollars like many suckers did who you can perhaps still find the posts of online). My former boss even paid an amount he didnt disclose to me a few years later despite me telling him my own story, and he said "I paid a pretty good penny, but these are supposedly like, top of the line, I mean they showed me the normal price and even if it's half that I got a good deal so..." Which makes me think they showed him a catalogue saying 2400 dollars and he paid like 700 dollars for a surround sound set which he then had me set up. His was no better than one of those beginners surround sound sets at walmart that sell full priced for like 70 dollars. The max volume was pathetic. So, I'm lucky that I got one that seems to really have 200 or so watts to it's subwoofer, and speakers which have taken a beating physically and with loud music for years now yet not burnt out, despite the fact that it all survives via a radiator on the rear of the subwoofer/receiver that lets heat out and seems like a fire hazard as these are certainly not legitimate brands. LASTLY... with all of that said, it's now 5 years later technology wise and if you hadn't noticed, Amazon has 2 day shipping on 350 dollar surround sounds that dominate this one in every sense. This includes only a couple of inputs for it's dvd player, plus 3 more RCA red/white audio inputs for whatever you wish. 3 audio inputs, volume buttons, a power button, and an input button are all that this receiver has. The remote if you don't lose it has the ability to individually adjust speaker volume, which can be nice, but often I don't know where the remote is or just adjust the overall volume or use software eq on my PC. Anyway, this isn't the worst deal if it works like mine, but these days youre crazy to skip the amazing receivers with 7 speaker outputs and 2 surround sound outputs with hdmi in and output, digital in and output for audio, and various other connections, settings, and things you may never use but make you look rich or fancy and will impress you and your friends. Plus you get a fancy display on those receivers.

I have the same theater System going on 4 years now and I've never had a problem with it and still don't. I love it and I think it's an excellent buy.
