A great set of speakers!
By araribat
I won't claim to be an audiophile or musically inclined but I just know a good sound from a mediocre one. Ok, so that's not raising the stature of this review at all. But if you want just a humble and honest opinion I would say this is one. All the other reviews I've seen of the ML's are those of the MLT-2's, what I bought and will be raving about are the MLT-1's.
Bought the set for just $299 when it went on sale at Frys, which promptly put it back to its original price of $799 after the sale. So that bargain price alone, although was a great start, it also made this set a suspicious one for me. But when I hooked its speakers up to my newly purchased Yamaha RXV665, man, was I blown away by that delightful sound coming from those small speakers!... "Delightful" is the only word I could come up with now so I'm probably not giving it justice. Granted the speakers I replaced were my 20 year old JBL's, which probably were so-so to begin with, but what I heard from the MLT-1's were just pure music to the ears in more ways than one - for even the dialogue from the set top cable box (Dishnetwk) was nicer to the ears than when I was hearing it from the other speakers including the TV's (Samsung UNC8000 55").
Anyways, let me just list here my general, non technical impressions of these speakers:
1. The sound that comes out does not deafen you even when volume is raised very high. The metaphor I have for the sound that comes from them is that it seems to come to you in a big "soap bubble" that when it "hits" you and "bursts" it gives you a gentle, refreshing drizzle to your face on a hot summer afternoon.
2. The subwoofer produces a soft but confident boom. Perhaps most subwoofers do the softie booms but I like what comes out of the MLT-1's SW. I like the fact that the SW automatically turns on when the amp delivers the signals. No more having to go do a manual switching off.
3. Back to the "bubble" description, I realize that's the visual I get when I'm listening from my kitchen, which is right next to the family room where I have the MLT-1's. When I position myself in the family room I feel like being inside the sound bubble, the sound is a bit different but I still feel its warmth and fullness, it's still just as awesome! (I am aware that my lack of articulateness is limiting the value of this review but I think the adjectives I have used here "delightful", "awesome", "warmth", "fullness" are quite appropriate to the sound that these speakers produce.)
Finally, I would surmise a guess that all those good reviews for the MLT-2's are likely applicable to the MLT-1's as well. Check out those reviews.
Hope this helps.

Home Theater Speakers
By Music in Mind
I recently purchased the Martin Logan MLT-1 5.1 Speaker System. All I can say is wow. I have owned many audio systems, and my current set up is well over $16K but I have never really focused on the home theater system, I am a audio guy, I love music.
I decided to upgrade my A/V system for the family and I am very impressed with the MLT-1 system, a very good system for movies, video games and TV. Speakers this small wont give you the full range of a live concert or the full range of a recording from Miles Davis, Marvin Gaye or Jay-Z, but they work really well for movies and games.
The speakers are well constructed and the finish is top notch. The sound of the systems far exceeds the quality coming from any of the systems that I have heard from Bose, Polk, JBL, LG, Sony etc.., You could spend a lot more a get a lot less in sound quality. Four stars out of Five over all, Five stars price considered!
The MLT0-1 system is priced at $240, but is worth far more, there is NO SYSTEM in any retail outlet that will give you better sound, with in $1500.00 of the Martin Login MLT-1, I've heard them all.

Outstanding sound and value
By sjdave
I was looking for small speakers to replace old bookshelf speakers. I first bought the Klipsch 1000 and was very disappointed with the sound and quality. I then listened to many small speakers in search of something that sounded at least as good as my old bookeshelf speakers. Some like Mirage were OK but still lacked the natural clarity at all frequencies that I hoped to find. Some small speakers sold individually such as from Definitive were good, but started getting pricy. My favorite separates were MartinLogan Motion series but would run $1200-$1800 to assemble a 5.1 system. Finding the MLT-1 was the Holy Grail for me. They were under $300 (open box) at Fry's or a little more at other outlets. I think these have been discontinued so grab a set quickly if you want one. Other than a center-channel grill that doesn't snap on perfectly, I have no complaints. The sound and quality are just wonderful and I would say that at three times the price. Even the little user manual is well written.
